Conducting

As a conductor, I have worked extensively with ensembles consisting of music students, semi-professional ensembles, and amateur ensembles. I have experience conducting symphonic orchestras, string orchestras, wind bands, brass ensembles, and choirs. Among other things, I have conducted full-scale operas such as Madama Butterfly (Puccini), La Traviata (Verdi), and Susannah (Floyd), major works like Carmina Burana (Orff) and Utferdsdråpa(Anderssen), as well as numerous symphonies and other symphonic works. I have had long-term engagements as the conductor for the Regional Wind Band for Tromsø and Nordre Nordland (TONN) and the Arctic Philharmonic Opera Choir, in addition to extensive freelance work as a conductor.

Current and previous work

August 2010-: Conductor for the City Orchestra of Tromsø (amateur orchestra). From 2015 on project basis with approx 2 projects every year.

Autumn 2004-: Extensive freelance work as a conductor and workshop leader (in conducting, score reading, and aural skills) for various orchestras, choirs, and bands in Northern Norway, as well as for the Norwegian Music Council in Northern Norway. This includes the course series «Ear Training and Sight-Reading for Choir Singers» during the spring semester of 2019, organized by the Norwegian Music Council.

August 2020-August 2022: Choir conductor for The Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra.

January 2020-June 2023: Conductor for the Youth Wind Band of Northern Norway (TONN)

August 2004-June 2012: Saxophone teacher and wind band conductor at the Music School of Tromsø.

August 2007- July 2010: Conductor for Skittenelv wind band.

August 2006- July 2010: Conductor for Tromsø Orkesterforenings wind band.

The summers of 2003-2010: Teacher at Norges Musikkorps Forbunds summer schools for wind bands. I gave lessons in saxophone, aural skills, music theory, conducting and chamber music.

October 2024: The opera Susannah/ Floyd. Tromsø Kulturhus. The performance was a part of the Arctic Opera Festival. Title roles: Giovanna Alves Dos Santos, Trond Halstein Moe, Endre Aaberge Dahl, Edward Thatcher Haavaldsen.

April 2024: «Postcards from Europe». Concert with The City Orchestra of Tromsø. Music by Smetana, Holmés, Vaughan-Williams, Grieg, Sibelius and Rodrigo.

January 2024: The Saxophone ensemble of The Academy of Music, Tromsø. Concert at the Northern lights festival in Tromsø Domkirke. Music by Gershwin og Shostakovitsj.

October 2023: Operagalla in Tromsø Kulturhus as a part of the Arctic Opera Festival. Soloists: Carlo Allemano, Sassaya Chavalit, Synne Larsen Mariussen, Anne-Lise Sollied, Trond Halstein Moe.

April 2023: Apokalypsens riddere. Orchestra from The Academy of Music, Tromsø. Soloists: Anne-Lise Sollied, Carlo Allemano and more. Sparebankens festsal, Tromsø. Music by Mahler and Britten.

March 2023: Concert with The City Orchestra of Tromsø. Program: Faust-ouverture (Mayer), Symphony nr 5 (Mendelssohn), The Enigma Variations (Elgar).

June 2022: First performance of J.E. Ingums Armageddon for brass ensemble with tuba soloist.

February 2022: A tribute to John Williams. With the Brass Ensemble at The Music Academy of Tromsø.

November 2020: Concert with The Brass Ensemble at The Academy of Music, Tromsø. Program: Hjalar-ljod/Groven and Pictures from an Exhibition/Mussorgsky.

October 2020: Concert with The City Orchestra of Tromsø. Program: Symphony nr 9/ Dvorak and The Rokokko Variations / Tchaikovskij. Soloist: Audun Sandvik.

October 2019: Operagalla at The Arktic Opera Festival in cooperation with Elizabeth Nordberg-Schultz, Mattew Marriot, Anne-Lise Sollied, Trond-Hallstein Moe and opera students from various Norwegian and European music academies.

October 2019: Choir conductor for the performance of Carmen (Bizet) by The Arctic Philharmonic.

Judge in competitions

February 2025: Head of the jury in a soloist competition that is a collaboration between The Academy of Music and The City Orchestra of Tromsø.

November 2016: Jury member in the Musical Championship for youths (region final).

October 2015: Jury member in the North- Norwegian championship for wind bands.
